Steven Martin1 The Word of God teaches that the source of all authority is God himself. That includes the authority to be exercised by elders in Christ’s church. No man appoints himself to be an elder. God must be the One to select his own leadership. He alone chooses and appoints men to be elders and pastors of his churches. All authority resides with Almighty God (Rom. 13:1–5). Perhaps a prior question should be: “What is authority?”
